“It’s a phrase we’ve all heard: No one spends at Christmas. Perhaps it is a lie we tell ourselves to feel better about not “bothering anyone and fear the rejection of a no”
But is it true?
Not for many high street retailers, but For wedding businesses, it certainly feels so. But is this because we have created the narrative, or allowed it to happen?
We are forced into patterns by our own thinking, our deep rooted thoughts that shape our world and in turn decision making.
The festive season often feels quieter, leaving many clinging on and hoping for a brighter spring.

Success in winter and then into spring isn’t about hoping; it’s about planning.
We believe the thought that no one buys at christmas, but have you ever tried?
Have you even made actual, planned, and concerted efforts to change that belief?
For me, we have been slowly bucking that trend, and this year we are about to smash our record sales total for December, we haven’t done anything flashy, or different, except we have just shifted our mindset to why wouldnt they.
We have found our customers in a happier, positive, and opportunistic mood. So much so they have been open to exploring ideas much more than those stressed, on a waiting list for an appointment, chasing for available dates, waiting for replies along with others January bookings.
November and December are fast becoming my favourite months for decision making buyers. They also feel pretty smug once they have sorted things ahead of time!
So now you’ve read that, I can pretty much guarantee, you’re still thinking, yeah but that isn’t the same for me, or my business.
Is that actually true?
The truth is, couples, your customers are still dreaming, planning, and envisioning their perfect day during the winter months.
This is your opportunity to stand out.
Why not try something to get ahead of others.
Here is my advice for you to break the myth that no one spends at Christmas.
Adjust your strategy: launch seasonal offers, highlight winter wedding inspiration, and engage with clients who are excited to make decisions before the New Year rush.
Think of the festive season as a chance to create lasting impressions. Use this time to strengthen your brand presence online, update your portfolio with fresh content, and reach out to past clients for testimonials and referrals. These small but impactful actions ensure your business stays front-of-mind.
Beyond marketing, planning your diary and cashflow is essential.
Creating a marketing strategy that pre-empts the slow down and beats the drop by planning in ways to boost the winter slump.
Strategise when payments are due and ensure that you’re balancing income with expenses. Having healthy profit built into each product your sell or serve, strong bookings process with a lock tight payment schedule will alleviate the ups and downs. Plus all the other lovely little things th
Consider adding in creative products and services that cater to the Christmas mindset:
- Vouchers: Offer gift cards for your services, making it easier for family and friends to contribute to wedding expenses.
- Early Booking Discounts: Provide incentives for couples to secure your services before the New Year.
- Trial Packages: Create festive trial packages for makeup, decor, or photography that double as thoughtful Christmas presents.
- Christmas Gift Products: Introduce additional offerings such as bespoke wedding photo albums, flower arrangements, or a percentage off future services. Make it easy for loved ones to gift something meaningful to the happy couple.
The biggest lie we tell ourselves is that no one spends at Christmas because they’re focusing on the holidays. Why not build a product tied directly to that focus? When you offer a gift option that saves someone time and effort, you become invaluable.
